Testing and Maintenance of Your Smoke Alarms Yes smoke alarms do require some maintenance to keep them working in top form, but luckily this maintenance is very easy to carry out. It is a good idea to lightly vacuum the alarm with a small bristle attachment
every six months or so, to keep dust from the unit. The last maintenance required is the
battery. Smoke alarms should be tested regularly to ensure they are in good working order.
Follow the manufacturer's recommendations as smoke alarms can differ. Generally, you
should test your alarms weekly by pushing the alarm test button. If you are unable to do
this, you can use a broom handle or cane to gently depress the button. 4. How to Survive a Fire in Your Home |
