Gravenhurst Pets Now Safer
Sunday, 17 May 2009 00:00

Thanks to area businessman Guy Francis, local pets can breathe a little easier. Francis and his company, Invisible Fence Brand of Muskoka donated three oxygen mask kits to the Fire Department. The maskes are specially designed to fit dogs, cats and other pets and are connected to the department's oxygen equipment they carry for humans. "These masks could prevent pets from falling victim to smoke inhalation at fires," said Francis. Fire Chief Lorne McNeice was excited to get the donation. "The masks we use on humans don't properly fit animals," he said. "These masks fit the pet's snout to give them more oxygen." They have been placed in the front-line engines in each station. Invisible Fence is donating the kits to fire stations across North America,. They are valued at $225 each.

Sparky Makes a Friend at Fun NightWe've been busy this week visiting all our elementary schools to spread the fire safety message. We took the Hazard House to Beechgrove Public, Gravenhurst Public and K.P. Manson Public Schools and gave classroom presentations to over 400 students over the course of the week. And on Thursday evening we invited Sparky the Fire Dog to join us along with students and their parents at K.P. Manson Public School for their annual Fun Night. Photo by Eric Reilly

Canadian Tire Opening a Success (despite the rain)
Monday, 11 May 2009 23:54

Wow it was wet! But we had fun and so did all the families who took the opportunity to experience the Fire Safety House during the Canadian Tire Grand Opening on Saturday, May 9th. Firefighters were on hand with the Fire Safety House and our new fire engine and tanker, handing out fire safety information and teaching families with the Fire Safety House. We're looking forwrd to being a part of Canadian Tire's Fire Safety Days each year at their new location.
