| | A home smoke alarm safety check program
"Smoke detectors save lives". We've heard this a thousands times before and yet each year people continue to lose their lives to fire. In 1994, 127 Ontarians lost their lives to fire. It's a staggering statistic. For many people it is a matter of a lack of education about the dangers of fire or the false impression that "it won't happen to me." For others however, the reason for not installing smoke detectors can be a lack of funds, or not sure of the proper methods for installation. To combat these situations, the Gravenhurst Volunteer Fire Department joined the "Alarmed for Life" program. "Alarmed For Life" is a program sponsored by the Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council to put a working smoke detector in every home in the province. GFD firefighters, upon request, will deliver a new smoke detector to your home. If your current smoke detector just needs batteries, we will replace them for you. If you need help with the installation , again we will come and install it for you. These detectors were purchased through the Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council and local retailers by the firefighters. Monies were donated for the purchase of the detectors by several groups including Gravenhurst's Royal Canadian Legion Branch 302 and other area groups and organizations. If you need a smoke detector or batteries, or know of someone who needs our help, please contact us so that we may work to ensure that all our residents will be protected. Contact Us if you require more information or a detector. |
