The GVFD uniform consists of two uniform types; a dress uniform and a fatigue uniform. The dress uniform has black dress uniform pants, and black LAPD sytle shirts for the firefighters and traditional dark blue dress pants and white LAPD sytle shirts for the officers. The officers will also wear dark blue dress uniform tunic as part of the uniform.
The fatigue uniform is similar with both officers and firefighters wearing a heavier black twill pant and black LAPD sytle shirts. Uusally worn withot a tie, the fatigue uniform is worn in situations where the firefighters may be performing work that could damage the dress uniform. The rank and insignia for both uniforms follow the Canadian Assoiciation of Fire Chief's model with the firefighters wearing silver and the officers in gold. The firefighter's badge is worn on the left breast, department insignia on the shirt collars and nameplate on the right breast. Firefighters qualified as Emergency Vehicle Operator wear wing insignia above the name plate. The white lanyard, worn on the left shoulder by firefighters and the gold lanyard worn by officers identifies them as being involved in our important public education program. Upon achieving ten-years volunteer service with the GVFD, the Town of Gravenhurst presents a Ten Year Medal to the firefighter. Silver with blue ribbon, the medal is worn on the right breast. We have two caps in use as part of the uniform, the traditional forage cap and a summer use, wide-brimmed Biltmore Raincrusher.
