Bill Gammon Bill Gammon in 1949. Bill was fire chief following Cecil Stamp in 1952 and remained with the department even after he stepped down as chief in 1957 when Roy Mathias took over. (from the Lloyd Stamp Collection)

Fire at the Muskoka Free Hospital for Consumptives on November 30, 1920 November 30, 1920 and fire claims the original infirmary and most of the central administration building at the Muskoka Free Hospital for Consumptives. The November 1920 fire at the "Free" destroyed the infirmary and part of the Administration building Originally built in 1902, the "Free" was struck by fire in 1920. The patient's rec center, Massey Hall, was used as the infirmary until the building was rebuilt. Today, Massey Hall still stands, but is now known as Scott Hall, and is a landmark on the Ontario Fire College property.  Photo courtesy Evelyn Longhurst (nee Harbridge) collection.
